Unveiling the Key Lessons from 2023: Exclusive Insights from Your BLK Team

Hello to our BLK Tax Family!

As we step into a new year, it's important to pause and reflect on the lessons learned over the past twelve months. The year 2023 was a rollercoaster of events, challenges, and achievements, offering us countless opportunities for growth and learning.

First and foremost we want to welcome and introduce you to our BLK Tax newsletter! This newsletter will serve as a space to keep you up to date on the latest information during tax season along with sharing some engaging content related to wealth and growth during and even after the tax season.

For our first newsletter we wanted to be sure to introduce the whole BLK Tax Team through some fun questions that have us reflect on our 2023 year!  We gave our team four different questions to ponder and to pick one to respond to individually. Check out our reflections below and get to know us!

Celebrating Teamwork: Can you share a memorable instance from 2023 where collaboration led to an outcome that wouldn't have been possible individually?

"2023 was memorable for many reasons and each day requires some level of collaboration with others to be successful. One particular event that stands out to me is our annual BLK business meeting which was held at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel & Resort in Phoenix, AZ. During our week-long working sessions, we worked with investors, clients, and employees to align on our strategy for 2024. Together, we came up with a plan to grow our business in ways that we had not considered before, while continuing to provide value to our customers - which shows the true essence of teamwork."

Devin Wise, Founder

Harnessing Resilience: What was the biggest challenge you faced in 2023, and how did overcoming it enhance your professional skills or personal growth?

"In 2023, my most formidable challenge was navigating the pursuit of business growth while committed to a full-time job. This endeavor tested my capacity to manage both people and time effectively. Overcoming this challenge not only honed my managerial skills but also fostered personal growth by instilling discipline and resilience in balancing professional aspirations with existing commitments. Ultimately, this experience empowered me to optimize resources and seize opportunities more strategically in both my career and personal endeavors. I am excited to continue this growth into 2024."

Mike Martin, Founder

Reflecting on Adaptability: In what ways have you personally grown in your ability to

adapt to changes in 2023, and how has this impacted you? "In 2023, my adaptability experienced notable growth. Professionally, I explored AI and embraced new methodologies, broadening my skill set and uncovering exciting possibilities. Personally, facing unexpected challenges highlighting the significance of resilience and flexibility. I dedicated time to develop analytical skills and enhance professional and communication abilities. Overall, my adaptability in 2023, coupled with a pursuit of AI knowledge, enriched problem-solving capabilities and contributed to a well-rounded year. Excited to continue building on these experiences in the coming year."

Ugochukwu Orjinta, Tax Analyst

Innovation and Creativity: Looking back at 2023, how did you push the boundaries of innovation and creativity? How do you think these efforts have contributed to your overall success and what lessons can we carry forward into 2024? "2023 was a year I had the opportunity to focus on a ton of career success and leadership. It is always a priority for me to ensure that any job I am in I am able to help uplift black and brown communities, sometimes that requires being creative when roles don’t directly ask for DEI programming and initiatives. I ensured that I partnered with key groups that focused on the leadership and development of professionals of color and was able to award significant monetary sponsorships to help support these organizations and collaborate to create educational material. As a black woman in leadership I knew that without my advocacy that support wouldn’t have come to fruition."

Here's to another year of learning, growth, and success – together!
